In May we also have a type of lillium which in Maltese is called the 'Bastun Ta' San Guzepp' literally translated meaning St Jospeh's staff. This flower is shaped like St Joseph's staff and many religious portraits of St Joseph have him with this flower in his hand. This lillium has an extremely fragrant smell. We try to include at least one in our May bouquets which makes such a difference due to the fragrance of this flower. Plants are watered from rain water collected in our rain water well, with cut flowers placed in buckets filled with stored rain water. Water is a very scarce commodity on this tiny rock in the middle of the Mediterranean.
