The Old School Favourite

Timeless classic, age-old favourite or enduring popular. However you describe it, there’s no getting away from the fact that the Chrysanthemum (chrysanthemum indica) is one of the world’s favourite plants.

Originally an autumn favourite, thanks to classically seasonal warm orange hues, rich yellow tones and harvest themed colours, today Chrysanthemums are popular all-year-round. New, intense colours and colour combinations are constantly appearing – ‘Crystal Ruby’, with its twin velvety red petals that invariably make you want to touch the flower, and ‘Mount Joy’, which has tubular flowers that fade from delicate white into lime, are just two new and exciting examples.

Chrysanthemums will bloom for up to four weeks with very little care required. It should be watered well (a feed is not required), but can be allowed to dry out slightly between waterings. The plant prefers a bright location, but not in direct sunlight, whilst it keeps longest in a cool location. Withering flowers should be removed.

Easy to care for, beautiful to look at, long-lasting and massively colourful… it’s easy to see why the Chrysanthemum has so successfully stood the test of time.
